Why Strength Training is Important to Athletest

  This article is to inform you on how strength training is important for many people, but most importantly for athletes.  It is important to have strength training because the qualities related to the physiological, anatomical, emotional, and psychological improve as your ability to tolerate external and internal stressors increases.  In addition, chances of injury in everyday activities diminish greatly.  This is a proven fact, yet this is not the significance of this article.  Training for athletes is important because it increases their chances of performance enhancement to a higher level as well as decreasing their chances of severe injury.  Strength training gives them an edge during actual sport competition because of the improved ability to tolerate all types of stress occurring in the competitive arena. 

              This goes for any athlete of any age.  Exercise or activity is important to everyone.  The author of Children and Sports Training Jozef Drabik stated, “Everyone should participate in some type of exercise, including children of all ages.”  According to Drabik, “Exercise is essential to health, fitness, and happiness.  But to get these benefits one has to do it, and childhood is the time to get into the exercise habit”.   In addition, he recommends exercises for strength training, “First are the obstacle courses, climbing, half-hangs, and rope pulling.  Second is climbing, vertical supports (as in standing push-ups), and hangs.  Then next is an exercise involving overcoming one’s bodyweight, exercises with an additional load (medicine balls).”  The list goes on, but the main reason why kids need to start training is so they get into a healthy habit and decrease injury prevention for their specific sport
